Dr. Sylvie Baudino of the University of Lyon, France has isolated the gene responsible for a rose’s scent.  Most roses sold in shops have been selectively bred for their looks, hardiness, and lack of thorns, but missing in the process has been its aroma. Now breeders might be able to bring its scent back.
