Metro Reviews: Dan Risken, Thief, UP Coffee, Doggins

Here’s my Metro Canada reviews for the week of March 10th

Nature Is Trying To Kill You

By Dan Risken

Kindle/iBooks/Kobo

Four Stars

Zebras don’t throw their friends “under a bus”, they throw them under a lion. Daily Planet’s Dan Risken tears apart misconceptions about how benevolent and harmonious a “natural” lifestyle can be with this fascinating tour of animal politics, sexual savagery, and brutal betrayal. Keeping things light, he uses an eBook’s interactive footnotes to link in cool facts as witty asides.

Thief

Xbox 360/PS3/Xbox One/PS4

Rated: Mature 17+

2 Stars

Garret is a thief who steals not from the rich, but from the miserable. He’s a sulky, unlikeable fellow in a heavily oppressed city that is both difficult to navigate and melancholy in mood. When he prowls the night it’s to break into hovels and loot lowly possessions from dirty bedrolls and broken cupboards. Where’s the mischievous glee in taking a battered woman’s wedding ring? The rooftop walkways, rope-firing arrows, and secret compartments are neat, but are lost in drab, confusing adventures so utterly misguided about what should be fun.
