Highlights From The Canadian Toy & Hobby Fair 2012

For Studio 12 this week I paid a visit to the Canadian Toy & Hobby Fair, an annual industry-only event designed to give local and smaller toy makers a chance to show their wares to retailers before they head down to the larger Toy Fair in New York in February.

I went in search of toys that use technology in new ways and was surprised to find live South African Dwarf Frogs being introduced as the next big companion item for kids (the frogs I’m told will not be sold in pet shops, but instead are being offered only through toy, hobby, and gift stores).

The show is a preview of what’s to hit stores later this year. Retailers we’re getting their first chance to see the new toys along with myself and if they like what they see and place orders for them, they should pop in your local area either this spring or in the fall.
